Another history tidbit;  Senator Cicero had a slave called Marcus Tullius Tiro who was literate and stayed with him throughout his days within and outside the senate scribing all his speeches and important meetings with Caesar, Cassius, Pompe and others.  He wrote 20 books during this period.  Cicero finally gave Tiro his freedom before he died at age 52.  The free man lived to see over 100.  Cicero instructed him to make sure the books never be destroyed.  These books did survive the burning & the fall of the Roman empire.
